About
Hi! My Name is Suzy!
My background as a speech-language pathologist has laid a strong foundation for my executive functioning coaching. The SLP graduate degree program has a strong emphasis on cognition, including the executive functions, as we are often the cognitive therapists within the rehabilitation world.
As a speech-language pathologist, I worked in-patient rehab for many years and provided executive functioning therapy to those who had experienced conditions such as a stroke, brain injury, dementia, and Parkinson’s disease.
Since I’ve been in private practice, my focus has been on improving communication and executive functioning with adults who have not had a recent accident or injury but who are chronically busy and disorganized. I have provided coaching to adults who have ADHD, autism, executive functioning issues resulting from a concussion or long haul Covid, and no diagnosis at all.
I am committed to a lifetime of learning. I love to read and learn, and I am always taking classes to improve my professional knowledge and skills. I have taken many continuing education courses to learn more about cognition and specifically executive functioning for both my speech therapy and coaching practices.
I have completed an ADHD Services Provider certification program and am trained in the Seeing My Time® executive functioning curriculum.
Although, I am a certified speech-language pathologist, all services provided by Suzy Carbrey LLC are strictly coaching and do not comprise clinical evaluation or treatment services. Please let me know if you are seeking a formal speech therapy evaluation and treatment.
Activities away from the office have included serving on the local library board, taking Spanish classes, and cooking. And in my spare time, you’ll find me hanging out with my husband and son.
I’m from Wichita, Kansas, and have lived in the Chicago area since 2015. What I enjoy most about this area is that there is always something to do. Whether I want to go into the city or get lost in a forest, neither is too far away.
I love to be outdoors, and hobbies include hiking, bike riding, kayaking. Several years ago, I adopted part of my local forest preserve as a way to give back to my community and continue to enjoy this experience.
